Visit from Sundarayya Vignana Kendra

A team from the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram (SVK), Hyderabad, visited the office of the Foundation for a week starting May 2, 2016, to discuss data collected by them in the course of surveys conducted in 2014 in 59 villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The team had four members: Veeraiah Konduri, member of the Central Working Committee, All India Agricultural Workers’ Union, B. Srujana, who works with Thoughtworks and is also a Ph D. candidate at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, SK. Pramod, Convenor, Free Software Movement, Andhra Pradesh Chapter, and J. Baburao, who is on the staff of SVK.

In 2013, SVK planned to conduct socio-economic surveys in 88 villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. These villages were drawn from the 22 districts (other than Hyderabad) in both States. The surveys took the questionnaire of the PARI surveys conducted by FAS as a prototype and extended them. In two years, surveys were completed in of 72 villages. Because of certain data discrepancies, SVK decided that they would consider 59 out of 72 villages for further analysis. These surveys covered 19691 households and 77,317 individuals. The analysis is still at a preliminary stage. The Foundation is happy to collaborate with SVK in their endeavour.
